As a consumer, the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA) protects you from unfair business practices and prohibits vendors and salesmen from using false statements, duress, exaggerations, or misleading advertisements to get your business.

Under the DTPA, you may have a right to compensation if a vendor or salesman obtained your business by:

• causing confusion or misunderstanding as to affiliation, connection, or association with, or certification by, another;
