Consumer Protection (DTPA)

THE TEXAS DECEPTIVE TRADE PRACTICES ACT (DTPA) PROTECTS CONSUMERS FROM FALSE, MISLEADING, OR DECEPTIVE TRADE PRACTICES OR ACTS.

The Texas government enacted the DTPA to protect consumers who have been victimized by unfair or dishonest business tactics or practices. In cases where a vendor, salesman, or business committed their deceptive trade practice knowingly or intentionally, the law allows for additional damages to be tacked on as punishment.

Most people agree that deception is not limited to lying. Sometimes what is not said is just as important as what is said. In certain cases failing to disclose material information can be a basis for a DTPA claim.

If you have been cheated by a business, the DTPA can be a effective tool for justice. Businesses are motivated to do the right thing when they know that a strong DTPA case against them can result in a very expensive judgment or settlement against them. The Law Office of Jonathan Hwang is experienced in utilizing the full extent of the DTPA to make businesses take responsibility for their unfair or dishonest trade practices or acts.
